DESCRIPTION
The Diamond-Hardened version of the Micro-Plane is ideal for cutting hard polymers and scraping coatings from metallic surfaces. Samples prepared for infrared microanalysis need to meet specific criteria for transmission analyses. The ideal thickness for a transmission sample is between 5 and 20 microns. Since most samples do not ordinarily meet this requirement, sample preparation is necessary. The Micro Plane is a unique and versatile sample preparation accessory that every microscopy lab should have. This device allows the user to plane or scrape the surface of a polymer or other solid material and produce a uniform thickness slice. The thickness of the slice can be controlled by adjusting a screw on the Micro Plane and varying the position of the cutting blade.
